Remedy of Choice

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Everyone has their own favorite remedy, don’t you?

One lady I know swears by echinacea, and another swears by olive leaf extract.

Some folks swear by, get this, sauerkraut juice! YUCK!!!!!

I’ve my own remedies that I use around here for different ailments, everything from cherry juice, cranberries and oregano vulgare. But Chili-man’s always coming up with something new to try. His side of the medicine cabinet is full of things he’s tried and forgone on. But that doesn’t stop him from looking for ‘his’ remedy of choice. He sometimes has inflammation in his muscles and joints. His newest remedy of choice? It’s Nopalea.

It’s made from the fruit of the Nopal cactus and is apparently quite tasty. (I haven’t tasted it myself.)

He tried it for free, (just paid shipping) by calling them at 1-800-203-7063.

Personally, I don’t care what it cost (well, within reason) as long as it works for him. Nopalea is touted to reduce inflammation, cleanse your toxins out of your body and promote good health. They’ve been around for over a decade with a proven track record.

If you don’t have a ‘remedy of choice’ why not try this one? Everyone has something that works best for them!

Don’t Leave the Scene

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Last night, on my way home, I crested a hill and there down by the river I could see a pickup in the ditch.

I also saw the white Lexus belonging to my neighbor making her way around the curve before you get to the river.

She slowed to a crawl and leaned out her window. By now, I was right behind her. We both parked our cars there in the middle of the road, turned on our flashers and ambled over towards the pickup.

The front end of his pick-up was down in the drainage ditch, thick tire tracks were evident in the road side weeds, red dirt splayed everywhere across the pavement. The driver, a thin older man was awake but not coherent. He was just sitting there in the cab, trying to light a cigarette.

My cell phone took that moment to die. Not a good sign I thought, but luckily the neighbors phone worked. She called 911 and I directed what little traffic there was around us.

While we were waiting for the sheriff, a rather large truck stopped by and the driver offered to pull the guy out of the ditch.

He did, quite easily. He then unhooked his chain and moved the mans hanging bumper from his tire.

The injured man, who had yet to speak, started his truck.

AND DROVE OFF.

We were left standing there bewildered. We thought he was in NO condition to drive. We watched the truck ease it’s way around the curve in the road then slowly go up the distant hill, weaving ever so slightly as it ambled up.

He crested the hill.

The sheriff’s car rose into view just then, did a quick turnabout and presumably caught up with the guy.

Hope he’s ok.

Freezer Meals

Friday, April 24th, 2009

We all lead busy lives, and sometimes, heck, lots of times life gets in the way of planning our meals.

This week has been really busy around here, LOTS going on, so much in fact that we’ve fallen victim to the ‘gaspp’ non planned meal. That’s where freezer meals come in very handy!

Last night, I called home to get chili-man to stick a frozen lasagna in the oven. Worked out great, it was done right about the time I walked in the door!

Yeah for a little advance preparation!

The moral of the story is next time you make a favorite dish, such as lasagna, make two and freeze one for a later day!
