Banana Boats

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

This is MY version of a banana boat.

Do you remember banana Boats? We made and ate them at Girl Scout Camp.

Anyone ??

Hey, any members of Girl Scout Troup 25 of Cross Timbers, specifically Whitesboro Texas on here? HOWDY DO!!!

Well this is what you do when you have a couple bananas that are headed south…. (True banana boats work best when the banana isn’t quite so ripe.)

Get some Reynolds heavy duty foil and create a packet. Slice your banana right into the packet. Toss in a handful of chocolate chips and several marshmallows that have seen better days. Create that packet and stick in on the back of the grill, out of the way, just where it can get some heat. It’ll be ready after dinner!

Here it comes - It’s hot! And IF you didn’t seal the foil very well, hot molten lava will dribble on your toes because you are wearing flip flops (I learned not to call them thongs.)

Wow, not quite the same as Girl Scout banana boats…. but you know what? Transfer it to a serving bowl.

and it’ll disappear in no time flat.

Yummy to the tummy!!

Marble Bars

Marble Bars

1 lb brown sugar (that’s a small box)
2/3 c shortening
3 eggs
1/2 t vanilla
2 3/4 c flour
2 1/2 t baking powder
1 pkg chocolate chips

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat, stir in vanilla. Stir in flour, baking powder and mix well.

Spread evenly to within half an inch of the sides of a well greased cookie sheet (a jelly roll pan works great). Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes. Cool and cut into squares.

This recipe is from my personal ‘tried and true’ recipe box. I obtained this recipe in the ninth grade in Home Economics at Whitesboro High School, in Whitesboro Texas. This recipe has been a favorite ever since. Makes great bars for packing a lunche and also look pretty on a serving dish. Try them once and they’ll be in your recipe box too!
ooooo, what was my teachers name????? darn!

YES! I was born a Texan! Hook ‘em Horns! But I can’t say that now because I live near Norman, the OU capital of the world… :)
