So this week, I’ve shifted off my Mexican focus, although I personally could eat Mexican every single day, OLE!
I bought a big old package of cubed steaks at Sam’s and am ‘planning’ on cooking them several ways this week.
I knew that yesterday, that I’d be really busy. Big G had to go to the vet. L So, I put three in the crock pot with about a cup of water (or enough to cover the meat) and a package of onion soup mix. I set it to low and off I went.
When chili-man walked in – I was certain the scent of the slow-cooking meat would knock him down, but no, he went for a bag of peanuts as a snack. I said “Hold on there fella. If you’ll put that back I can have dinner ready in about 30.”
Don’t think he wanted to let go of his ‘snack’ but he did.
I whipped up some mashed potatoes, some sauteed mushrooms, some green beans and beef gravy, from scratch mind you. When dinner was ready, he wanted to know what was in the gravy.

I explained that the gravy was made with a little oil in the pan (don’t say FAT he won’t eat it), some flour, and then beef broth. He gave me a funny face, so I explained that I strained the juices out of the crock pot to use as my beef broth. He wanted to know “Why didn’t you make REAL gravy?”
HUH? That is real gravy, dude!
Men.
