If you’ve managed to find this post then I assume your sofa is probably looking pretty dull and dreary. Luckily you don’t have to shell out on a brand new one to get your living room looking spruce once again. So I’ve decided to put together a few tips on how to revitalize your existing sofa.

Buy a sofa cover: Well, sometimes the most obvious methods are the best. Visit the store that you bought your sofa from and they might have one that fits perfectly. Otherwise they will most likely have a section of ‘one size fits all’ covers which are sure to hide any unwanted stains. The beauty of this method is that if it gets dirty all you have to do is wash it.

Strategically placed cushions: This method is usually saved for the comedy dads who’ve spilled red wine and simply flipped their cushions to hide their clumsiness from their nagging wives; often to discover an equally nasty stain on the other side. So to stop the endless cycle of flip and re-flip buy some large fancy cushions. They cover the stains and make the sofa more comfortable.

Give it a decent cleaning: Start by vacuuming the sofa, the pillows and all its attachments. Make sure you get the back of the sofa as well. Use a duster to clean the wooden areas. When you’re ready to get going make sure you follow the directions on the couch cleaner. Apply it to the entire sofa to make sure that there are no inconsistencies in colour and don’t reassemble the cushions until everything is dry.

Choose from one of these three tip and you are guaranteed to have a new looking sofa at a fraction of the price of a new one. Good luck.
Alternatively you could always buy a new sofa from SCS. They’ve lots of leather sofas to choose from.

Would you believe after ALL THAT PREPARATION that I FORGOT I had the silly coupon in my purse and lost out on 20% at the first store?

I do a ton of my shopping online, but I’m usually ’store’ savvy too.

When I took Ms. J back to school shopping recently, I planned the route, and I scoured the net looking for printable coupons. I then printed out physical coupons for every single store that I thought we might go shopping in.

Would you believe after ALL THAT PREPARATION that I FORGOT I had the silly coupon in my purse and lost out on 20% at the first store?

ARGH!!!!!

That’s one reason why I love shopping online. As you’re checking out there’s a box there for a coupon code so even if you’ve forgotten, it just takes a minute to go check your favorite coupon site, like Savings.com deals for an online coupon.

That reminder is priceless! Well, maybe 20%.

Coupons have been around for decades, in fact, if you come across a vintage women’s magazine and flip through the pages, you’ll most likely see coupons! Course they were mostly food…

Now, as I shop for anything online, whether it’s back to school clothes, or movies, I always check for a coupon code.

The good thing is, I’ll never lose one of those in my purse!

Have you even made out your Christmas gift list yet?

It’s never too soon to at least start ‘thinking’ about the upcoming holidays.

Seriously. Have you even made out your Christmas gift list yet?

Sure, we all need to cut back on not only how much we spend but on the number of people that we buy gifts for, me included.

But, making a list of gifts you need to buy now, will enable you to do two things.

(1) Actually SEE who’s on the list and therefore enable you to figure out ‘who’ you can eliminate
(2) Keeps you aware of ‘who’ is on the list so that when you’re out and about and you see something that’s right for ’so and so’ you’ll know

This helps you cut back people and presents, but it also allows you to be able to buy maybe one ‘better’ present for a special someone instead of a bunch of little ‘nothing’ gifts.

For instance, Invicta Men Watches are perfect for the man in your life. A nice watch really sets off a ‘nice ‘ suit. And you can even find special watches, like diving watches. Course not everyone has a diver in the family.

BUT everyone that has a Christmas list should make one now. Do it in word, do it in notepad, do it on a sticky note, just do it.
Knowing who is the first step in having an affordable Christmas.

invicta-watch-reserve-dive

I’m sure you’ve seen granite and stone countertops in kitchens and bathrooms.

They’re gorgeous.

They also play HAVOC with eyeglasses.

If you’re over 40, you’ve probably lost some near vision. When you set down a pair of black or dark eyeglasses on a granite or stone counterop, well, you might as well kiss them goodbye!

It happened to me.

I hadn’t had them that long either!

So, what do you do? Well, until you bump into them again, you’ll need a second pair, SO, I went looking for cheap affordable prescription eyeglasses in a BRIGHT color so that I wouldn’t loose them and I found a place online.

According to Clark Howard, (a money expert) get your glasses online and save money!

Take a look at this short CNN video in where he talks about his book and offers a few tips from it, including buying eyeglasses online via ZenniOptical.com. It’s important to get the ‘best bang’ for your hard earned dollar when purchasing everything, including prescription eyeglasses.

http://am.blogs.cnn.com/2011/08/03/how-can-you-improve-your-personal-finances-in-one-week-clark-howard-explains/

I opted for bright pink.

I do know many people that are wine enthusiasts though and at least one that has joined a wine club (via mail).

Hemispheres Wine Club is a Canadian membership based wine club that offers an entire world of undiscovered international wines. Wine club members receive bottles of extraordinary quality crafted by meticulous wine makers devoted to bringing the best out of each grape variety.

There are different membership levels for different levels of wine enthusiasts and includes shipping and insurance.

There are NO surprises.

I can see how it might be embarrassing to ask for the carcass at a friend or co-workers house, but surely not from a relative.

What’d she do with the leftover carcass?

Well, there was plenty of meat left.

She used the meat to make a casserole (that she took to the relative…) and the bones made some mighty fine chicken stock for future use. So I say, sure, it’s proper, at least in this situation. Everyone benefited.

How to choose batting fibers

Quilts may be made any size, from a crib sizes, twin, and full, double fit, queen, king or even a popular one made for getting cozy on the couch. The standard crib fit is around 45 x 60. Twin fits are 72 x 90, full and the double are 81 x 96, queen fits are 90 x 108, and the king fits are around 120 x 120.

To choose your materials you must consider batting quilt fibers. Once you choose your batting make sure that you unfold the cotton material and let it set a couple of days before you start crafting. The batting will relax and inflate. You want to space your batting closely to avoid bunching also when crafting your quilt. Some materials require pre-washing before you can use the fabric. Read your labels.

You have options in battings, including the traditional, which is often made of cotton and the polyesters. The blends of polyester and cotton will shrink sometimes. To stitch the cotton you will need to create intervals of larger stitches, yet if you combine polyester with your cotton, you can minimize the stitches.

The line of battings, include polyester, silk, wool, etc as well. If you choose the polyester, you can create a non-shrinking quilt with intervals of larger stitches. In addition, you can create intervals of wider expansions, which you can craft your quick at a speedier pace. Polyester is the choice of battings, since crafters can design a quick, machine washable, and non-shrinking quilt. As well, the crafter can design a thinner quilt verses the thicker, since polyester is a batting made of “high loft.”

My favorite is silk, yet if you are creating a traditional style quilt, the silk may not be suitable. You can still make a quilt of silk, yet you will pay top-dollar and spend a length of undesired time to finish your project. In fact, most crafters do not recommend silk for creating quilts.

Wool has migrating fibers, yet you can sew through the material with ease. You will need to space closely when needling. The wool over time will loose its fibers however. Wool will also fuzz. You can use lightweight materials, or cloths to prevent fuzziness, as well as to prevent fiber loss. Wool is not suitable for machine wash; rather you should take your quilt to a professional cleaner, or wash it by hand and allow it to air dry.

Now choose your style:
If you want the antique or traditional quilt, you will need to use the “low loft” material. The quilts include the Fairfield, which is 100% bleached cotton, the poly-filled cottons, which is 80 % cotton; the “Mountain Mist/Blue Ribbon Stearns” are 100% cotton as well. You can also choose the 100% polyester, Morning Glory, or the Glory BEE I, which is also 100% polyester. Many other styles and varieties are available.

Once you decide which fibers, or fabrics you want to craft your quilt you can then consider your backing. You can purchase yards of backing. The backing today makes it easy to fill in the length and width of your quilt. Ultimately, if you choose backings that come up short or longer you can stitch a couple of pieces together to even your quilt. Still, you want to make sure that the backings work in harmony with your fabrics, or fibers.

Ultimately, if you want to spend time making a quilt you can choose blocks and patches. The pieces of material were frequently used by grandmas, or women of traditional days. The quilts are often sturdier than the modern quilts, yet you can still craft a strong quilt today.
