Stretching Dollars

Save $ at Disneyland Secrets

May 11th, 2011

I’ve a relative that decided on a whim to rent a mini-van and haul her kiddos to Disneyland. They did everything impromptu and luckily for them it all worked out great.

I’ve got a friend that planned her Disneyland vacation to the tee! Her’s was less ‘impromptu’ and was able to take advantage of many a special (because of the coordination) than the relative was.

Her secret?

Well she had two.

(1) She created an itinerary so that they managed to be in the right places at the right times for all the ’special’ events and bargain prices.
(2) She utilized Disneyland secret tips garnered from an ex-Disney employee!

This ex-Disneyland employee knows all the ‘inside’ information that allows people to not only find the cheapest tickets but where to find freebies!

Plus inside info on which rides are best, which ones to miss, best places to eat (and the ones to look out for). She tells you which shows to be sure to catch and which ones to avoid.

You TOO can benefit from learning some Disneyland secret tips by following this link, buying the INSIDE information before you head out on vacation.

You’re sure to save WAY MORE than the price of this book, it’s less than the price of a carload of drinks at your favorite drive in!

Best Places to Retire in Florida

April 3rd, 2011

I’ve mentioned before that Chili-man wants to move to Florida, specifically the Jacksonville area. I’ve googled the area, and I think that IF I were to move to Florida that a good compromise might be the St Augustine area. It’s not too far from his proposed locale.

Of course that’s just from looking at a map. I’ve not been to Florida, for any length of time, in years, although we did stop in Pensacola on a trip about ten years ago.

Consequently that’s about the same time I started getting videos and brochures in the mail from various retirement places all touting come see the best places to retire in Florida. Many even had really good ‘come visit’ offers. But we’ve never taken any of them.

Have you looked into retiring into a community? I suppose it would have it’s benefits. There’d be plenty of other people around so you wouldn’t be lonely. There’s bound to be many people with interests that mirror your own so you should be able to make friends easily.

There are even all-inclusive resort style communities with just about everything you could ask for. You could have golf, and other athletic ops including wellness centers and classes. You know exercise is important for your health during retirement.

These senior communities start at age 55! When did 55 year olds become seniors? But then again, lots of people get to retire in their fifties and moving to a place where everything you need is close at hand could certainly be a boon. As we get older, we like things to be simpler.

Neighborhoods where people meet and mingle, all in residences of their own with top of the line amenities from luxurious bathrooms to top of the line kitchens.

It’s certainly something that people approaching retirement should at least take a look at. Sure beats shoveling snow and lawn work!

Garage Sale Season Has Started!

March 21st, 2011

Garage sale season has finally started!

I love garage sales because you never know what you might find.

Or not…

:)

I stopped at three on Saturday. The first one had the whole street full of cars. I had to WAIT for some customers to leave before I could park anywhere near the place. People were leaving carrying sacks. ALL OF THEM.

Oh, anticipation was getting to me. I SO wanted to park blocking someone’s driveway just so I could hurry and get in there before all the good stuff was gone. I wanted to block the mailman by parking in front of a mailbox.

But I was good.

I waited.

Almost patiently.

Then someone actually left! YEAH! I parked and high-tailed it in there.

At first glance, I thought NO, there’s nothing here for me. Then I saw their DVD’s. TONS of them. Two bucks a piece.

Oh how many to pick? Should I just get one or two? I opted for five making my purchase an even ten.

I worried if maybe I was duplicating something I already owned. I wondered if I was choosing something worth two bucks…. I chose Stargate, one of my all time favorite films that I knew I didn’t have. I ROBOT which I ‘didn’t’ think I owned, The Edge because I like that movie… picked up the war one for Chiliman and took a gamble on Strange Days. (We watched that one yesterday - NOT a keeper.)

I did pretty good.

Save Money with a Train Ticket

March 19th, 2011

Grandson decided to spend spring break with his girlfriend. Parents approved - on both sides…. (Everything is on the up and up - his girlfriend’s parents LOVE him!)

While grandson does have a drivers license, he doesn’t yet have a truck. He’s relied on a family member to pick up and deliver him. Not ’so’ bad until you realize that it’s 90 miles to her house!

They met at Turner Falls a couple of summers ago!

With gas being over $3 a gallon, the round trip has become excessive. Gas money alone is a whopper not to mention all the drive time. There and back AND there and back.

So, I went looking at train tickets.

Did you KNOW? You cannot go to the train station and buy a ticket in Norman OK? Nope. How about Purcell? Nope. Well then you must be able to buy a ticket at the main train station in downtown Oklahoma City, right? Nope!

The ONLY way to buy a ticket, at least here in Oklahoma, is to buy it online and have it delivered via mail.

Hmmm, time was of the essence. I bit the bullet and ordered the tickets. Came to $50, less than gas! Saved time and money. And yes, they got here in time.

He’s scheduled back tonight. He’d better have kept track of that return ticket!!!

Listing Christmas Stuff in March - I’m Late

March 13th, 2011

I’m so behind.

I’ve bitten off more than I can chew!

I’m SO far behind that I just now listed a Christmas ornament on Ebay!

2010-white-house-christmas-ornament

2010-white-house-christmas-ornament

It’s the official 2010 White House Christmas ornament so yes I’m late, really late.

Sometimes I wonder WHY I’m trying to be Martha Steward and Pioneer Woman all wrapped up in one? I already wear lots of hats as I’m sure most of the rest of you do too! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandmother, a commuter, an employee, a blogger (of more than this blog) an Ebayer and an e-commerce site owner. Plus I am also the chief cook, bottle washer, gopher, admin, housekeeper and you name it around here.

So that’s why I’m late getting my ’stuff’ on Ebay. I’ve vowed one a day. Not making it, so I’m aiming for listing as often as I can steal some time away.

How to you handle Ebay?

Bargain Search

March 10th, 2011

I love shopping online. Yes, you can be frugal and shop! You just have to compare and look for coupons.

In fact, I hardly EVER order anything online without either a discount code or a free shipping code.

We probably all have our favorite spots to look for those ’secret’ codes and bargains, but, I’ve noticed that over time, sites that I used to use to find codes and bargains slowly begin to have less and less of them. That’s when I go looking for new places.

Sometimes I go to several of these kinds of sites before I find the codes (or deals) I’m looking for.

I’ve found a new spot for savings, and it’s aptly named http://www.savings.com!

Yes, right there on the front page are staff picks, which are going to be what most people are looking for, like the Penney’s coupon (for their Wednesday sales) and the Kohl’s coupon. (Gotta love Kohls!)

They’ve divided the deals up by store, or by product and there’s that handy dandy search button! That way no matter what you’re looking for, you can find it fast!

I like to search that way. For instance, I typed in magazine and up pop all the latest subscription deals.

SWEET!

Add Savings.com to your bargain search!!

Anniversary Gift

March 6th, 2011

Have you seen that commercial where the lady calls her husband and says “Happy Anniversary” and he gets all flustered because while he totally forgot, he’s saying he remembered?

Well, we are all so busy these days that special events/days are easy to slip up on us. My anniversary isn’t for a couple months but that doesn’t mean I can’t start looking for just the right gift, now.

We almost always either get something ‘for the both of us’ or ’something for the house’ but wouldn’t it be nice to get personalized anniversary gifts

Can you see this? I know the image is small, so let me tell you what it is. It’s a name spelled out in photographs! How neat is that? Each letter is a photo of something that is either shaped like your letter or is of a letter found somewhere. I love it.

Now should I get it for him?
