Are you thinking about a staycation this year?
More and more people are considering a ‘stay at home’ vacation these days. They’re using the time and the money they would have spent on a trip away right there at home, doing household improvements.
Improvements not only add to your enjoyment of your home, they will also add to the overall value of your home, should you ever decide to sell. They make your home more attractive to you, now, and to a potential buyer in the future.
Some folks decide they like their new improved home so much more now that they don’t ever want to move. Staycation it is!
Do you know what’s hot in backyard designs right now?
Yes, outdoor kitchens are not just for industrious canners anymore. (Frugal homemakers will sometimes set up a rudimentary outdoor kitchen where they can up their abundant garden produce into volumes of glass jars.)
Today’s outdoor kitchens can be as small or as lavish as your desires and budget allow.
Begin your design by considering what you will be doing in your new space. Will you be entertaining large groups? If you plan to host adult parties you might want to include a large drink well. For kids, consider an low water fountain. You could begin by adding a stone paver patio and adding built in stone or tile front, weather-resistant cabinetry and include in the design a high-end built in barbecue. Add in many feet of natural stone or ceramic tile countertop, a stainless sink as well as a seating and eating area and you’ve created an outdoor space that you’ll use, and use often for years on end.
Additional upgrades may always be added at a later date. How about a canvas retractable awning or perhaps a wooden pergola to keep the rain off your new outdoor kitchen? I’ve even seen home additions with an adjoining roofline that looks much like a large covered porch, or sunroom complete with retractable window and door coverings to keep out rain and bugs.
You could have a natural gas line built directly to your grill and have electricity run so that you can utilize electric barbeque smokers, a small refrigerator, or even a made for outdoors big screen TV!
The only limit to an outdoor room is your imagination.
You can even use it for canning!
