Hummingbird Food

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Around these parts, that would be central Oklahoma, the initial ’scout’ hummingbird comes through in mid March scouting out potential feeding spots on his trek north. I always put a feeder out on the Ides of March (March 15).

I haven’t seen any hummingbirds yet, in fact, it now seems a little late in the year to not have seen any, but, I still change the feeder out weekly, just in case.

Don’t buy that expensive hummingbird food at the store. Make your own!

Dissolve a quarter cup of sugar in a cup of warm water. In other words its a 4-1 ratio of water to sugar. Make sure it cools down before you put the feeder out. That’s it!

Just be sure to change it every few days depending upon the outside temps. We don’t want it to spoil!
